35. Thomas Point Shoal Light

Annapolis MD
sighted from distance or out at sea multiple visits
autumn 2000
While Thomas Point Light is probably the most well-known structure on the Chesapeake Bay, this icon of Maryland culture is surprisingly difficult to view from land. On our first visit, we arrived near Thomas Point and squinted to see the screwpile lighthouse over a mile out in the Chesapeake. In Spring, 2002, Jeffrey and Dad took a boat tour from downtown Annapolis to get a close-up look at this graceful structure.
