On our first visit here, we were stopped by the locked gate.
We vowed to return at the once-per-year open house at Point Lookout and returned on Nov. 3, 2001. We received a tour of the lighthouse and grounds, bought souvenirs, viewed the Potomac and Chesapeake, even enjoyed the nearby playground. For details on the open house each November, contact Point Lookout State Park. The nearby area of Fort Lincoln was used as a Confederate POW camp during the Civil War and over 4,000 rebels died there. Warning: the basement of the lighthouse is notoriously well-ghosted. |
