Another lighthouse with some colorful history, Piney Point was a summer retreat for American Presidents, an old-time version of Camp David. Presidents did indeed retreat here, for the brackish water breezes and a getaway from Washington stress and congestion. There is a museum and gift shop here.
Jeffrey saw some pretty impressive jellyfish on his first visit here and enjoyed ringing the fog bell.
By 2002, the internal staircase was restored and Jeffrey was able to climb the lighthouse at the annual open house on May 11. No jellyfish this time, he also got wet in the Potomac River with other kids. |
