The New Cape Henry Light was constructed adjacent to the old one, as it was feared the old one would collapse. Nothing was farther from the truth, and the Old Cape Henry Light, built in 1790, remains open for climbing over 200 years later. The New light, a coast guard facility, is closed to the public. Both are visible by reaching Fort Story, off of US 60, in Chesapeake, VA.
