Back to Jeffrey's Lighthouse Visits
Liston Rear Range Light, Port Penn, DE - summer 2001

Jeffrey celebrates his arrival at Liston Rear Range.
About Range lights:
Imagine a lighthouse in the middle of land. Rear Range lighthouses are not
like most lighthouses and are often found inland some distance. They work
in tandem with a front range lighthouse and line-up, one above the other,
in the sights of captains at sea to guide ships through narrow channels. If
the range lights are not aligned properly in the captain's sights, he is steering
his ship out of the channel and into dangerous waters.
This lighthouse is nearly 4 miles away
from its front range counterpart and well into Delaware farmland. The range
guides ships into Delaware River.
